My old flatfender...

'48 Flatfender Frame

If you've been keeping up with the editorial babblings you know that I got my old beat up pile o' crap '48 CJ-2A back from Jeep-parts black-hole Rick Pewe (past Jp Editor). He had it and a bunch of other Jeep parts horded until he ran out of space. So I nabbed it. There really wasn't much left when I gave it to him. It was pretty stripped. No engine, axles, tranny, t-case or anything. Basically just a bent and cracked frame, a crumpled body, and a tweeked rollcage. Once I dragged it home I cut out the cage, pushed the body to the side of the garage and pulled the frame into the garage. I already have an engine and axles for it. I just need to fix and clean up the frame. It won't be what you think when it's done, so I won't spoil the surprise and tell you just yet. I still don't know what to do with the body. It's full of dents and body filler. I'm thinking I might take it out to the desert, pour gas on it and burn off the paint and bondo. Then bring it home and get to work. I'd rather have dents and a rough body than bondo anyday. Or, maybe I'll find a good tub. Anyway, here's the frame waiting for the torch, welder, and grinder. You can also see the rear axle...a junkyard full-width Ford 9-inch with a factory nodular 3rd member. Don't expect too many flattie updates until after I get the Juggy running. But you're free to guess how I'm gonna build it! --John Cappa
