Relaxing in traffic and drinking specialty sodas? Am I older, wiser, or just more Californian?
Last Christmas my wife got me a Sirius satellite radio and a friend got me an Ipod nano. Between the two of them I haven't listened to terrestrial radio in almost a year. Maybe it's the lack of commercials, no more wacky zany disk jockeys, and not hearing the same song played four times between my house and the office, but I've learned to relax in the maddening traffic that plagues southern California. Even when overturned semis and police pursuits bring traffic to a standstill I have no compunction to reach out and strangle the driver next to me.

I've also given up drinking a half dozen Dr. Peppers and/or Cokes throughout the day. I'm now down to one or two fru fru specialty sodas. One of my new kicks is Boylan's "Sugar Cane Cola." It's a hundred year old recipie that's still made the way it was originally. You may think Coke has always been the same as well, but Coke, as well as most huge-brand sodas have to cut corners to meet the supply demands. Stuff like substituting cane sugar for corn syrup, artificial flavors and colors, etc. I'll still down one at a restaruant and I still keep it in the garage fridge, but there's nothing like flopping in front of the TV with an ice cold glass bottle in your hand.
