Deuce

This was it, I was committed, no turning back now!

When last we left off I had just meet up with Cappa and his Deuce and were ready to set off on our 5 day 500 mile road trip.

The first time I climbed up into the cab of the green monster will be a memory that I will not soon forget, as I am sure it is for everybody that has ever ridden in one be it in the military or not. Before I knew it we were chugging along (or more like roaring along) down the road.

I know for myself looking at trucks like these you form ideas of what it is going to be like just by looking at them and hearing stories. For me and the Deuce some of these turned out to be true and some not so true. The most noticeable is the noise. The Deuce is loud, there is no two ways about that. But for just normal city driving it isn't too bad, it is when you get out on the highway humming along at a comfy 55mph and 2000rpm that the drone of the motor, the turbo whine, wind noise, tire noise, and all the squeaks rattles and moans of the truck get to the point of being unbearable. At that point the set of ear muffs that John keeps in the Deuce came in very handy. While that preconception turned out to be true other didn't. Like the ride quality. You would image a truck of this size would ride rough wouldn't you? Well it surprisingly isn't. It also handles and corners very well for a truck its size; I have felt more out of shape in some lifted Super Duties than I did riding in the Deuce.

Ok back to the adventure. Day 1 was off and roaring. After meeting up with the other Jp Staff members and another Deuce (one sick A3) it was off to the desert. This meant a nice four hour ride on the highway. By nightfall we had made it to our first destination and I had survived my first day in the Deuce. At this point Hazel was still mocking and tormenting me with tales of how bad my ass was going to hurt. On that note we turned in for the night fore we had a long day of wheelin' ahead of us and I couldn't wait to see what the Deuce was going to try and dish out.

Tune in tomorrow for the next installment of "Five Day's in a Deuce" and be sure to look for the entire story with all the details of our OD Road Trip in an upcoming issue of Jp Magazine!
