Something about home

pork roll, pizza, east coast food

Yeah, this says all kinds of weird things about me...

But really there is just something about food from home.

I'm from NJ originally, and there is a meat there that doesn't exist in the rest of the world.  Go over (or under) the river into NYC, and its not there.  Cross the bridge to Philly, and its not there either.

I'm talking about Pork Roll aka Taylor Ham.  It is a processed meat like bologna or hot dogs, but with a bit of spice, and saltier.  Think sausage, but not quite.  Anyway, I got hooked on PEC (that's shorthand for Pork Roll Egg and Cheese) with SP (salt and pepper... no ketchup on my eggs) while playing hooky from homeroom back in high school.  It's been a big ol love fest of cholesterol ever since.

And, ok, so this particular sandwich isn't really from home.  Its from The Village Pantry Deli on Old Trenton Road in Princeton Junction, NJ.  Since the corner deli in Woodbridge closed, this is my favorite place for a killer breakfast sandwich.  They have a cool twist on it, which has changed the way I eat breakfast sandwiches, and that is to put a hash brown on the sandwich.  Sounds simple.  Never thought of it before.  Works out with just about any breakfast sandwich to make for some serious titillation of the taste buds.

Furthermore, the Village Pantry has home made ice tea, which as you can see, I get by the bucket.  Not too sweet and not too bitter, this is a really nice tea.

Yeah, so there is just something about home.  And, home cooking.  I can't wait till I go back again for more PEC SP.
