What is and shouldn't be

Flat CJ-style dashboard in a Wrangler

It seems most of what I do on my Jeeps is making them more up-to-date and swiping parts from newer Jeeps to make the older ones more friendly day to day.  Be that as it may- every time I turn around I'm looking to put a flat dash in a YJ or TJ Wrangler.

This was born from having a need and remembering parts hanging out collecting dust.  You see, I started buying these gauges back in 2000 or so for my '80 CJ-7.  I bought a gauge here, and a gauge there as money allowed, but never did anything with them.  I then ended up selling the CJ-7, and figured I could use them in my 715.  At some point I realized white face gauges in a military truck is just wrong, and went looking at black gauges for it.  Then, I got it in my head they would look good in my '78 CJ-5.  I even went so far as to swap in a YJ steering column and YJ windshield on that Jeep.  I just never got around to putting the dash in.

Its funny to me that these gauges that were to go in 3 different flat dash-panelled Jeeps end up replacing the plastic-clad dash in my '94 Wrangler.

The gauges are Autometer Phantom series, the indicator lights are: left turn, right turn, high beam, check engine, brake, upshift (which is driving me nuts), and 4WD.  The headlight switch is from an 80's era CJ, while the toggle runs my electric fans.  You can see the space I've left for two 6 1/2 inch speakers and a DIN size radio.

I think it came out really good, and I'm kindof itching now to turn time back on another Jeep dashboard.  What do you all think?
