It's been too long since I made some metal dust for the '48 Willys pickup project.  Time to get back in the saddle.

With a functional tubing bender once again (see other blog) I can get to getin' on finishing the rear of Overkill's cage.  Think desert race truck meets hot rod and you'll get the idea.  The cage will be pretty complex once I'm done if all goes to plan, but you've gotta start somewhere. Today I finished the down bars to the rear of the bed that come off the interior cage.

I drilled and sleeved the tubing from the cab with some 1-1/2 DOM.

Don't forget to leave a space for the weld to fill for the most strength.  It also makes for a better looking joint.

The bed sides are really in the way, so I may just skin the bed to build the rest of the cage and then bolt them back on with quick release fasteners.  Or not.  Either way, here's the start of the cage finished.  Now to add another 60-feet or so more tubing.
