Death of the Chop Saw

After 6 years and countess projects my $50 Harbor Freight chop saw finally gave up and died on me.

And wouldn't you know it - it was right in the middle of a project.  It seems the gods are conspiring against Project Murderous Overkill ever reaching completion.  After making a few cuts for the 0.095 DOM triangulation in the rear of the cage, the saw just wouldn't turn on.  I jiggled the plug, checked my circuit breakers, and everything else I could think of before hitting it like the Fonz.  Sure enough, that worked and let me make one more cut.   Then nothing.

After pulling the motor apart and cleaning it out I discovered one of the two brushes has a broken spring.  I'll search for a repair kit since the saw is usually $100 unless you find one on sale.  If I can't find a repair kit I'll just grab a small spring off something and carefully wind it onto the brush in place of the broken one.  No biggie, but I'd rather be working on my vehicles than on my tools.
