Christian has a way of coming up with lasting yet often degrading names for my Jeeps. This one has been dubbed Sloppy Seconds. Mostly because it's being built from leftover and hand-me-down parts. The engine and axles came from his Willys truck, the frame came from my old flattie that I stole back from 4WOR editor Rick Pewe, the springs are the old ones off of the Project Hatari! CJ-6, and so on. So, Sloppy Seconds it is.
Anyway, after being a little disappointed with the results of the rear suspension I let it sit a few days to think about the best way to handle it. I think I have a simple solution. I don't think I need the whole 10 inches lower I thought I did. So I think some lowering blocks will solve my problem. It's already spring under and adding a 5-inch or so lowing block should give me the height I need. Axle-wrap shouldn't be an issue with the power of my selected engine and I'll clearance the frame with a C-channel. Now all I need is some 1 3/4-inch wide blocks, longer U-bolts (which I likely have), and some rectangle tube to build my C-channel. Here is the hole I cut in the rear floor for the axle. The leaf spring in the image was one idea. I was considering a transverse-mounted leaf with a link suspension till I realized lowering blocks were the simple solution. Of course the link suspension would have been cooler, maybe at a later date.
