Anyway, the fire in Canyon Country, California burned right up to and around my property. After I heard about it I had to drive home from San Diego on Sunday night/Monday morning just after midnight and got there at 2:30AM. It burned the hill right behind my house and everything beyond it. I could even see it burning as I was exiting the freeway. But I couldn't get to my house so I parked at a grocery store, snuck past the police and rode my bike the rest of the way (about a mile). I was putting out tumbling embers in the lot next to me till around 4am trying to keep them away from my home and garage. It was crazy windy with 60-80mph gusts. Part of the roof blew off the garage. At this point the flames have past and I'm back in the office, there is nothing left in the hills behind me to burn. I feel pretty fortunate. Tech Editor Hazel on the other hand has just informed me that he has been told to evacuate his home in San Diego.
