One of the things I found that I really like about the Cherokee is the ability to sleep comfortably in it. I don't have to worry about putting up a tent, if it is going to rain, how much wind there will be or anything. I get where I'm going, and in like 5 minutes, I could go to sleep if I wanted to.
So, picture this, I get to camp, pull the cooler and milk crate out of the Jeep, pull the back seat ass pad out of it, fold the back of the back seat flat, slide the passenger seat all the way forward, use my camera case to extend the "platform". Then, having got the seats arranged, I can throw down my pad (in this case just a blanket) unroll my sleeping bag, toss my pillow in, and I'm done. No crawling around in the dirt, no messing with poles or ropes or anything. Sure, I've got a cooler and a milk crate outside, but they can get wet... heck might even clean them up a bit.
This works so well in fact that on a recent trip; I had a buddy sleeping in his rooftop tent, and one in the bed of his truck. I woke up at 8 in the morning and they had a fire going. I ask them why they were up with a fire going already, and find out they didn't sleep. Unbeknownst to me, there were 50 mph winds that night. I slept right through it. Sure beats sleeping in the passenger seat of the YJ or TJ.
Did I mention that cleanup is a snap too? No rolling the tent up, crawling around in the dirt kinda stuff. In the Cherokee I'm off the ground and clean (relatively).
Why do I even bother to run the back seat? It provides good separation for my cameara gear and laptop, and all the other stuff goes behind the back seat and due to the way I pack it, it is locked in from sliding around.
