Time to cage my beast...

Building a Roll Cage

Many of you may know that I, sadly, do not own a Jeep. Instead my wheeling rig of choice is Ford Ranger... but it's not your ordinary Ranger...

I have posted some information about the truck in the past but for those of you that don't know I'll recap. My truck is a 99 Ford Ranger 4x4. It has the Dixon Bros Racing Long Travel kit in the front and has a Giant 4-Link in the rear. The front is bumped/strapped at 14" and the rear is currently bumped/strapped at 28" of travel (though its capable of ~35"). It is equipped with Sway A Way 2.5" coilovers at each corner, 2.5" SAW ByPass shocks in the rear, and SAW 2.0" hydraulic bumpstops at each corner. The rear axle is a Ford 9", trussed, with Currie 35 spline axles, Explorer 11" disk brakes, a Strange nodular third member stuffed with 4.56 Sierra gears and a Detroit locker. The rear cage was built out of 1 3/4" .120 DOM tubing.

Now the time has come to build a roll cage inside the truck. The plan is to build it out of the same 1 3/4 .120 DOM that the rear of the truck is built out of. You can see in the pictures the plan for the lay out of the cage. As of now I've got the C-Pillar (rear hoop) nearly complete. The plan also includes installing a pair of Beard Ultra-Pro2 seats and reinstallation of the stock dash and carpet.

I'll keep you guys posted as progress moves forward. Plan is to have it done by the end of June... we'll see how that goes...
