And what's really cool about them is they draw fewer amps than other conventional off-road lights. Desert race teams have been using them by the dozens for years. And ever since I had witnessed their daylight-like performance firsthand, I wanted 'em. But they come at a price. About 10 or so years ago the technology was still relatively new. Not many companies made HIDs and the lights were very expensive. I remember a single 8-inch light costing over $600. Today it seems technology hasn't brought down the price of these coveted off-road lights much. Many HIDs are still in the neighborhood of $400-$600. Except for my newest find. These Custom Accessories 7-inch HIDs only run $119 at Kragen (www.kragen.com)! And they come complete with built-in internal ballasts. Even if they were total piles of plastic China crap, at nearly 1/5 the price I had to try them out. So I'll be adding them to the '07 Wrangler to see how they hold up in the real world. At first glance, I'm impressed, and a little irritated with the other HID manufacturers. Come on, 10 years and very little price change? Plus importers tell me these lights can be purchased from China for around $60. I'll keep ya updated on the performance and durability of my el cheapo HIDs. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem paying for quality. However, I wonder if there has been some price gouging goin' on. I think the cat's out of the bag. Overpriced HIDs might be just that. I'll know soon enough.
