Why am I looking for another Jeep when I'm already up to my eyeballs in project vehicles? 'Cause I'm a sicko.
I went and almost bought this clean '74 intermediate. It had a 232, a T-18, and a Dana 20 drivetrain. The centered 30-spline Dana 44 and Dana 30 front made it more tempting, especially with a clean title and a price of $2,000-obo. So why did I pass on it?
The frame was totally hammered. There were a bunch of shoddy repairs and a whole slew of unrepaired cracks that I didn't want to deal with. Besides, the only things I'd be reusing would be the T-18 and maybe the t-case, so I wasn't too hot to spend $2K for a mediocre body, a tranny, and a title. I could've repaired the frame, but for the power levels this Jeep would've been subjected to it really wouldn't have been worth it.
What sort of power levels you ask? The next Jeep project I undertake is gonna have eight cylinders and they're gonna be under boost. I had been thinking at least 600hp would do me, but now I'm thinking it's gonna have to have at least 750hp. That's AT LEAST 750hp. I'll probably be a little happier with 850-900hp. And if I do 900hp, 1,000hp should be within spitting distance. And if I can bang off 1,000hp, then 1,300hp sould be reachable with a little squeeze.
Lemme finish up my white '68 J2000 pickup and then I'll get on the stick looking for something really cool to accept that engine combo that's rattling around in my head. Cappa may be a little help with my plans. We'll see.
