Warthog Overheat

I have been going through the images I took last week and found a few busted parts pics.

The Warthog overheated twice in the tank trap. It shot steam all over the place. In the end it was suspected both the freshly rebuilt big-block and Powerglide tranny were toast.

The International Traveler hit the logs in the Frame Twister a little too hard. The suspension links smashed the oil pan (guess the bumpstops were not working), destroying the oil pump and distributor drive in the Ford 460. It was repaired after only missing one event.

The '77 Waggy bent this modified Rockwell tie rod in the Frame Twister. Locating the ram a little different could have avoided this problem. They had it straight by the time they needed to run the mud pit.

Like most International Harvesters, this one seemed to have problems whenever it touched dirt. The hill climb put  this IH on it's side so we could get a better look at the oil pan repair. The excavator turned it into a pretty cool marionette doll.

Broken Bronco

This is the stuff nightmares are made from. I don't think the suspension on this Bronco could have been any more jenky and rigged. It was way too complex, tall, and poorly executed. The front end pushed into a large rock in the Mini-Rubicon and unloaded while the rear pulled itself forward and under. This first resulted in the rear chain limit strap breaking free. Then the rear shock mounts failed, finally the rear driveshaft bound and snapped. At about the same time the front driveshaft popped as well. I'm sure there was more that broke. The Bronco was a mess after this event.

CJ-5 TH400 oil pan crushed

The CJ-5 probably should have had a skidplate protecting  the aluminum Cummins/TH400 oil pan. One simple slip in the Mini-Rubicon popped a hole in it the size of your fist. Luckily the uncoordinated recovery crew didn't make too much of a mess of it when they banged it around with the excavator while trying to extract.
