Flat Rod Jeep

Sloppy Seconds

Over the weekend I kinda bumped into parts for my flatfender rat rod project now dubbed Sloppy Seconds.

Tech Editor Hazel was literally giving away a frame that's in much better shape than the old battered and welded one I've been trying to work on. So I nabbed it and hauled it home in the bed of my truck. If you look closely you'll notice it's from an M38A1. It's even got the machine-gun mount on the crossmember! Sure it has some poor patch jobs and it's missing a few components, but you have not seen the frame I'd been working with up close. It's from my old flatfender that had seen way too many trails, patch jobs, and farm fabricators. Clever readers will spot something else in the bed of my truck as well. That very same weekend  I somehow convinced a buddy to sell me the SM420 he had rotting in his garage. It only cost me $50. Sloppy Seconds is coming together nicely.
