Most of my coworkers decided to hit Pismo Dunes this weekend. I even had another offer to go to the desert, although I think it's still a little too hot for that. So instead of wheeling, I spent a good part of Friday afternoon going over my Jeep Rod frame with a fine tooth comb.
The poorly-built frames is one of the reasons reason I really dislike pretty much all '86 and older CJs. It's just that I have a special place in my heart for flatfenders. I've been grinding out frame cracks on my M38A1 frame and welding them up. And I even welded up a few non-essential holes that had been randomly drilled. I thought about welding up all the holes but later decided to keep most of the stock ones, I don't want the frame to look too clean. Anyway, I should be able to get most of the rear suspension welded on today. I'm still waiting for parts for the front end so if I can do the rear and get the body tub on I'd be in good shape for the weekend. If there are any specific frame repairs you'd like to see, speak up, I'm using nearly all of them on this pile.
This section here had been cut, drilled and welded-on so many times previous to my ownership that I simply hacked it out and replaced it with fresh metal.
