Let me preface this whole blog with the fact that I'll never own an Apple device. I hate Apple. Hate em.
My hatred for Apple goes way back. Look, I loved the Commodore 64... but my mom ran mainframes, built PCs, and I kinda followed in her footsteps. So, I got my first PC somewhere around 1985. My mom worked for IBM or a division therof, and we got a PCjr. It all went downhill from there.
At first I basically used it for Kings Quest and Keystone Cops. Half the time the games wouldn't load, and I'd get pissed... she'd do some DOS magic and I'd be back on again. Somewhere around the same time, we got computers in school, and myself and two buddies got 3rd place in a Basic programming contest. I was hooked. I liked typing in letters and numbers and getting graphical results. Try that with a Macintosh.
Then as time went on, Dos faded, windows came out, and lo and behold the PC scene exploded... any kind of program you could have and use (sometimes). Most of the programs I came to use all the time... half games, half office stuff weren't available on Macs... the keyboard shortcuts didn't work on Macs... Ctl Alt Del was even different. So, me being a teenager, I decided Mac sucks and move further into the PC world, learning how to build the things.
Then Windows based cell phones came around and most of the same tricks (registry mods, bios, even a lot of the programming) was the same... now I had a whole new thing to play with and modify.
Anyway, Cappa got a laptop a couple years ago, and he's got stock in Apple, so he got a Mac laptop. I kind of became the go to guy at the office for PC problems and I basically told my boss he was on his own with that POS.
Itunes is another thing I hated... at my previous job (circa 2003) my boss got an ipod for his daughter, I had 40 Gb of mp3s I'd ripped over the years, and I was one of two computer geeks... I got the TAD of setting up the bosses daughter's Ipod, and putting some music on it. Well, Itunes decided to try to rearrange my music filing system to dump all the tunes in one big folder and once again I got all kinds of tweaked with Apple.
Well, fast forward 5 years... 3 of which Cappa and I bust on each other when the Mac or PC don't work... I'm deep into Windows Mobile phones... the Iphone came out, and I wasn't even a little interested... and I figure out a neat way to get a dirt, dust, and water resitant stereo system into a Jeep. Catch is, it requires an Ipod.
Of course Cappa gives me the story to write, and so now I have an Ipod. And what's worse in my eyes is that I like it, and spent 6 or 7 hours today loading music and playlists on it. Even worse than that might be that I plan to go get a wire to plug it into my other Jeeps first thing tomorrow.
I still say I'll never own a dang Iphone. Much less a Mac computer...
Yep, Cappa broke this 2-decade PC-only love affair I have by assigning me that story. Oh, the story will be in the Jan Issue if you guys are curious.
