I always find it amusing the random things that are often seen on roadtrips, and this one is no different. What is kinda different for me is that until the eastern edge of Kansas, the weather was crappy with some great fluctuations. Two days ago, 29 snow... now, in Indiana, 82 and sunny.
Anyway, here I am sitting in traffic, and thought I'd put up a blog with some of the finer points of the trip.
Things I've noticed as well along the way:
- Kansas is tied with Pennsylvania for the second most boring state to drive across, with Texas, of course, taking first place. Montana is pretty bad too... but at least its legal to go fast.
- Different states deal with car fires differently. In Indian, a car caught fire on 70 and they closed the road. I saw it being towed off, an d it looked less damaged than my MJ did after it burned. And they closed 3 lanes for that? I was still taking crap out of my truck when it looked like that and was on fire.
- When driving through a rainstorm, and passing a front, and the temp jumps from 47 to 68... like the thermometer in the dash literally went straight from 47 to 68 without hitting any other numbers, the outside of all your windows and the windows of every car around you will immediately fog up.

- When all your windows fog up to the point you can't see out of them, the automatic wipers on an 08 Grand Cherokee will activate before you even figure out what is going on.
- 47 degrees and rain with 50 mph cross winds is crappy weather to fix trailer wiring in.
- when you add ramps to your trailer make good and darn sure that there is no way at all, under any circumstances that the ramps might hit the wiring. Troubleshooting in a Walmart parking lot just before dusk trying to beat sunset with the storm coming that you just spent 10 hours driving through is not relaxing.
- I miss trees. Back in NJ, they signal the change of the seasons. That feeling you get when you know wheeling is coming to an end, and its time to rebuild and modify the Jeep for next season. With no trees in SoCal the whole color-of-leaf-changing-new-season-coming thing is gone. Sure, the guys from SoCal or the guys that have been there too long will tell you there are trees there. And, granted, there are a few. But, nothing like what there is east of the Mighty Miss. And, they just don't get the whole changing of seasons thing... not like we do in the East. That said, here's a few pictures.
