Today I finished welding up the leaf spring and hairpin mounts.

I just bolted the front suspension back together and installed the engine and tranny as well. The weight is on the suspension, this is about ride height. Also, this is where the grill will sit once I have it bolted in place. Yep, looks like the tires will clear the grille as long as I stay smaller than 30 inches. Now off to replace the knuckles and brakes. Does it sit low enough for ya?

How long is the rear driveshaft? I may have something kicking around that'll work for ya.

2. Thanks! That's exactly the look I was going for. The top of the grill is just a little over two feet from the ground. I'm pretty stoked on the way it's turning out.

Rear driveshaft is an oddball, it's a 1350 at the tranny and a 1310 on the rear axle. 25 1/2 inches long. I have a couple around that might work if I shorten them and use a conversion U-joint.

4. also, you gotta run a front drive shaft through the grill, even if it doesn't work, just to freak people out.

5. There are two shackles. One at each end of the spring. It's a pretty typical hot-rod setup but I flipped the leaf spring the other way and flipped the leaves to the topside of the pack. It compresses opposite of a standard leaf spring.

Nah, I just yanked the pinion out, pulled the axle shafts and put the carrier and ring gear back in. I'm gonna leave the diff cover off so the gears get all rusty. That'll get people wondering.

7. I thought you'd never get going on it. Guess I'm gunna have to pull mine out of the palo verde tree and round up all the "cool" pieces.

8. By the way Mr Cappa, i know I've given you a whole bunch of crap in the past, but this project is way too cool. I guess this is one that a lot of us have been planning. Even Christian doesn't realize that he's actually puting one together. He simply spending too much money on his.

9. I really like this project, it's like a rat rod. I think this project should get more coverage in the pages of JP. I have been stashing part for a project but it's a cj8 and a Mopar 440, I Like the pickup look.
