While Cappa is gold-chaining around the southwest in a Viper, I'm working away in the garage. I finally got the 4.0L in the J2008 project truck!
It's been a year or so since I got the 4.0L from Scotty's Jeep & 4x4 in Fonatana for the '68 J2000. It's been sitting on an engine stand smack in the way of my garage fridge, bender, plasma cutter, and other stuff in that corner. Whenever I needed anything in the area I had to move that damn engine out of the way.
I had planned on a quick and dirty installation into the truck using Painless Performance's new Perfect Engine Management System for the 4.0L, but the company took a bit longer to finish the product that they (and we) originally thought. So the engine sat, and sat, and sat. And when I finally got the Perfect system for the 4.0L I found I'd need to swap nearly $500 in sensors, distributor, coil, etc to make the older '91-'96 era engine work with the connectors that come on the kit. Soooo, no go on the Perfect system. Looks like I waited for nothing. It's a great system, but you'd be better off starting with a '97-'99 engine. Live and learn.
Regardless, I've got the wiring harness taken care of. You can read about it in the January '09 issue of Jp. Once my Daystar motor mounts arrived I put on the Centerforce flywheel and Centerforce II clutch setup and slung it in. I'm so happy to have that engine out of my garage I can't believe it. Now if I can just get the 455 into Murderous Overkill and the 5.7L hemi into the Wrangler it'll mark the first time in 6 years there hasn't been an engine on a stand inside my garage.
