Adding another to the fleet

Best Digital Camera

I've been wanting another camera for some time. Don't get me wrong though, I have plenty. Just not the right one. Cameras are like Jeeps, you can't just have one. So I have several, and I just added another to the list:

I have an old Nikon FG, it shoots film, it's almost totally manual, it's too big to put in my pocket and not worth enough to get rid of, so I let it collect dust. In 100 years someone will put it on a shelf as a a collector's item.
I also have a Nikon f-4. It's perhaps the most bomb-proof and functional film camera ever made. I've used it on the trail, in the rain, mud, and snow for nearly 10 year and never had it cleaned. It's full of dirt but still shoots perfect images every time. I swear this thing could double as a hammer or weapon. For years people asked me why I was still shooting with film. Simple, because it always works and the images look better.
When the company required us to upgrade to digital I ended up with a Canon G3. Back when the mag was smaller, 90% or more of the tech images were shot with this kind of camera. Today, much of the tech and installs are still shot with G3s even though they are about 8 years old. I just had mine cleaned and repaired for the first time, I had dropped it. Not a fantastic trail camera but it does shoot videos and the fold out screen is a godsend for installs and undercarriage feature shoots.
Next I ended up with my current trail camera, a Canon 20D. It's really complex and sensitive to dirt. Honestly, I don't think it shoots pics as good as the f-4 but it's way easier to store and use the images.

Cell phones take crappy pics and I've always wanted a camera that I could put in my pocket. One that I could carry around almost all the time. Something shockproof and water resistant that I didn't have to worry about. Well, I found one, and bought it yesterday. My new Olympus 850SW is perfect for camping, rain, snow, mud, dirt, underwater, dropping, whatever. It's impressive for a $250 point and shoot camera that shoots videos too. If you're looking for a good camp/Jeep camera this is a great model to compare to. It has good features, is freezeproof to 14 degrees F, shockproof up to a 5-foot drop, and waterproof up to 10 feet deep.
