Sick of my J2000

FSJs Suck

Yet another setback for the J2008 project truck. I'm soooo close to using it as a shotgun target it's not funny.

I've pretty much had it with this build. I'm so over it I can hardly stand to look at it. Trouble is, I have to look at it every time I go out my front door 'cause it's been immobile in front of my garage for over a month.

Today I was putting the finishing touches on the drivetrain install. I did a power steering swap with junkyard parts, topped off the power steering

NP208`

fluid, filled up the radiator, filled up the Dodge NP208 with ATF, and welded on a better bracket to the framerail for the fuel pump.

It was while I was welding the bracket that I noticed the puddle of ATF on the driveway. I thought it funny since I didn't spill any. Then all those cracks spidering through the questionalble T-case I bought on-line made themselved known. I never noticed them on the ground, but I'm bettign when I bolted the T-case to the NV3550 it pulled the case into alignment and exposed the cracks. I never noticed because the T-case had been empty up till today and the cracks look a lot like the black RTV I use.

So now I've gotta pull the new driveshafts, pull the T-case, find another Dodge NP208 ('cause the shafts are already built for it), make sure the new NP208 won't blow up, then slap it all back together.

I'd rather be wrenching on my flattie or Wrangler. Anybody want a cheap FSJ?

2. Thanks, but I bought the T-case from the midwest to begin with, so I'm betting that had something to do with all the stress cracks in the housing. The box it was shipped in was completely crushed and falling apart, so UPS probably did its usual "bang up" job of shipping.

I had one of these NP208s in a Ramcharger I drove forever and never had any problems with it, but this T-case was hammered when it arrived inside and out. I think I just got taken and sold a crap T-case. Oh well.

6. My we are a little touchy. Shoe does not fit to well does it? I'll give you $250. as it sits, no questions asked. Make that $200. cuz I'll have to drive from Texas.

7. Not touchy. Just joking. Sometimes it's hard to tell on-line because I can't bring myself to use those silly smiley face things - you know - these :-). Those are one of my pet peeves.

Believe me, she was literally hours away from having to call Ecology to haul it away because it HAD to be off the property. I gave her about $450 more than she probably would've gotten. And had she said no to my $500 offer I was prepared to walk away because I really didn't need the Jeep. No bad karma there no matter what artistic license I used in that story.

8. i feel your pain! ive got a 53 willys pickup that ive been messing with off and on for the past two years and every time i get under the thing i find somthing else wrong with it! im really tempted to pull the engine and trans and junk the rest..... but i realy want to drive it.. so it'll probably stay in my 1 1/2 car garage taking up space

10. I understand about the little faces, and not knowing about the person on the other end of the line. I got a hoot(wish it were hooters)out of your reply. I congratulate you on the find. We all need one every now and then to make up for the times like you have now. I own a sandblasting/welding/painting and powder coating business, and I've open the can of worms before. Anyway,congrats on the find and I look forward to the next update. Later, tom

12. ya ive been watching the write ups on overkill its kind'a my insporation for my 53.. is it wrong to look at my wedding as yet another set back for my projects?? i also have a 70's postaljeep on 35's that i have to get the rear axle regeard but every time i get enough money saved up to get it in the shop the money gets diverted to somthing less importent. ive been thinking about getting a seconed job just to support my jeep addiction.. good luck on the j2008 and overkill!

Yep old stuff is a pain I got 208 bolted to a t176 from an 80 j truck sitting in my shed, i shuld keep it as a spare for my j20 but if i wasn't in n.h. i'd give it to you free just to see that rig running. good luck and we all know you love old junky jeeps that are broken cuz you sell the ones that run!!
