Why is it that all the killer deals fall in my lap when I'm broke? Case in point - a way cheap CUCV that runs good and still has the factory Dana 60/GM 14-bolt with 4.56s.

It's not what you think. I'm not even sure I'd cannibalize this one for parts. I used to be a fullsize guy, driving my Ramcharger anywhere I could get it to follow Cappa's flattie. I think it would be cool to buy this, take off the service bed, cut the fenders for 44s, and wheel the pisss out of it. Who says all my 4x4s need to be Jeeps? Hmmm, I wonder if there's time to get my 3-speed Stak and some big tires installed in this bunny before Moab.

1. Those are sweet rigs, i've got one i made into a crewcab shortbed to haul my rigs to the local wheeling place instead of using my nice rig. They run awesome with a turbo and NV4500.

2. I agree with you on the drivetrain. Fred Williams over at 4WOR has one with a Banks kit and an NV4550, but I'd leave this 6.2L stock. I have a 32-spline input Stak 3-speed and an adapter for that tranny all ready to go on my workbench, so that's what would replace the NP208. I'd sell the service bed for nearly what they're asking for the truck, build an expedition-style flat bed and would mount some 42-inch BFG Muds on it with no suspension mods (swazall). I know I said 44s at first, but I'm calming down a bit. Detroit Lockers front and rear, a crossover steering setup, and that's it.

After it's all up and wheeling I'd yank the 6.2L and sell it for money if it's in good shape, then put a 650hp 502 Chevy big block in its place. Mmmmm, power.

3. I have one already. I use it like a tractor and I love it. At any given time it has a combo of heating oil, #2, motor oil, biodiesel, and kerosene in the tank, and it runs great. I learned a ton wrenching on it and it has a special place in my heart, even though it has east coast rust and a funny smell. And even though its a pain sometimes, I really love the 6.2L diesel.

5. I feel your pain about this. A buddy of mine has an early 90's Dodge one ton that he put a 70's crew cab on. With a shortenend bed and a two inch body lift to start it would be a great safari rig. I would do an Off Road Design lift-of the 4 to 6 inch variety, cut the fenderwells and run 44's. Maybe some gears and lockers in the 70 rear and 60 front with the cummings-It would be ready for adventure.

8. He told me once that he would take $6k for it but in reality he would have taken $5k I'm sure. However, now he just bought a camper so he says he can't sell it. Cash is very powerful though! LOL
