Designated wrench at work

Somehow I've become the designated wrench at work. Since most of the guys that work in our office and live in LA can't afford to be in a place with a garage, they come to me.

And if they have a garage but have a task they can't accomplish with their tools, they come to me. And, as it turns out there isn't much I can't fix, rebuild, weld, fabricate, or rig back together. I've welded seat belt mounts to a rollcage and replaced the spider gears in a GM 10-bolt for one of the ad guys, I've changed the gear ratio in a Ford 9-inch and done various welding jobs for Jp's Art director, built and installed a Dana 44 rear axle in a freelancer's Jeepster that Trasborg ended up buying 6 years later, and lots more. So this job was pretty easy. All I had to do was slam home an inner pinion bearing on a Dana 50 pinion. It only took a couple minutes but it gave me the chance to see the difference between a Dana 44 and Dana 50 pinion. Interestingly, there isn't much difference at all. But the Dana 44 has a larger inner pinion bearing. It makes sense since the Dana 50 is a high-pinion front axle that loads the outer bearing more than the inner. And rightfully so, the Dana 50 has a larger outer pinion bearing than the Dana 44 low-pinion. I guess I like to investigate these little bits of info when working on things.
