I didn't set out to make twins, it just kind of happened.
The little YJ, which was nicknamed mini long about 7 years ago I brought out to CA with me from NJ. Its been through a lot with me, and I've likely racked up about 200,000 miles behind the wheel of it. The paint code on it is PCH, and its a '94 color that is called blah blah Blue yadda yadda...
Fast forward 7 years and I'm building a monster YJ with the same suspension as Mini. Because I'm not creative, I'm calling it Big Mini (even before it was painted). You guys know it better as the YJ on 40s. Anyway, recently I thought it would be a good idea to see if I could put a decent paint job on a Jeep in a long weekend (look for those lessons learned in the form of an upcoming story). Soup to nuts, it took 4 days. Summit Racing got on board and supplied me with some Blue Pearl from thier paint collection, and away I went.
I was quite surprised when I got both Jeeps back side by side to see just how similar they were. Not only are the blue hues really close, but they've got front and rear tube fenders, steel rocker guards with steps, Goodyear tires, etc etc. Maybe I should just give up and admit that no matter what I do with a YJ, it will be the same YJ I had before... just different flavors of the same Jeep.
Sure there are differences, but they are all deeper than the skin: V-8/ 4-cylinder, 4L60E/AX-5, Currie 9s, Stock axles... it goes on.
But, they both will end up with custom flat dashboards, they both have flames of some sort airbrushed onto the hood, they both have grey seats, and that goes on too.
I don't even know what number YJs these are to me. I think they are numbers 4 and 5 (Mini and Big Mini, respectively). And, all but YJ number one was blue. Everytime I sell the YJ for a CJ, I only end up back in the YJ camp again a few months later. Maybe I should stop fighting it and just keep at least one of these YJs, if for no other reason, to stop me from buying any more.
