I forgot to mention, in the middle of my trifecta, I also went and checked out a show in downtown Reno. They shut down like 5 blocks, and it was like a big wheeling block parts.
It was basically a WEROCK event that happened to have a bunch of Jeeps show up. There were vendors, some hot chicks, and some really cool military hardware.
That HMMWV is up-armored like you wouldn't beleive. I think the only body part that is the same as the HMMWVs I got to drive all those years ago (6.2L-powered ones) is the body tub. Hood, doors, top, its all different now. Its got a bigger radiator to deal with the added stress of the weight, the rims are 20-bolt rims, the tires are different, its got AC in it, just a ton of differences. Really cool. And the Oshkosh is the replacement for the Deuce and the 5-ton. Its 7-ton rated, but the guys like driving it so much more, and with that huge honkin CAT motor who can blame em?
The rock course was shotrete... but they let the Jeeps loose on it, and I got to see some great driving. Ah well, enough out of me, here's some pictures.
