Someone left the door to the new shop open today and I was able to sneak Mileage Master into a Hot Rod TV shoot.
Okay, not really. Well, the roll up door was left open. And I did roll my Jeep in there, but I had to bring the Jeep in to load it up with some suspension goodies for Red, our '01 TJ. I was hoping to bring the YJ on 40s to Moab this year, but parts availability and my normal horrible timing, not to mention lack of a tow rig are crippling my efforts.
So I got approval to lower the TJ from its 4 1/2 inches of lift and 35s down to something more road-worthy and then I'm gonna take it to Moab. Brilliant, right?
Don't fret, it isn't street Jeep magazine just yet. I got the Jeep as a hand-me-down from Cappa already on 35s and he likes the way it wheeled with 33s the best. He says it climbed great, didn't feel too tippy on sidehills, etc. Well, I had it in Moab on 35's with a 4.5 inch short arm lift and it went wherever I wanted it to, but it was scary, and I know how spooky it can be on the street.
Sounds easy, right? Not so much. The interior is ripped out to fix the turn signal/headlight switch/hazard issues, the switches for the old air lockers are gone, the HVAC is on the fritz again, the rear end is bent and blown up, it isn't registered or smogged and hasn't seen freeway speeds in a year. Should be in for a good laugh or two, as well as a few other emotions.
What am I doing? Well you'll just have to wait until the June issue to find out. Or, catch Red and I out at Easter Jeep safari in Moab, Utah.
