I started building some Olds 455 motor mounts the other day using some poly spring bushings and some 1-3/4-inch DOM like I usually do. Then I remembered Brown Dog Off Road sent me a set of its 1-inch lift 4.0L motor mounts with its MML Ultra-Flex Rubber that look like they'll work. Why not?
It all started a little while ago when Tim Shideler at Brown Dog Offroad read the Your Jeep Q&A section of the April 2010 issue of Jp. In one of my answers to a reader's question I recommended Mountain Off Road Engineering motor mounts and failed to mention Brown Dog Offroad. Tim respectfully (and accurately) assumed it was just an oversight on my part and promptly sent out a sample of his product so perhaps next time I recommended heavy-duty replacement motor mounts for Jeep I-4 and I-6 vehicles Brown Dog Offroad might come to mind.
Well, I don't currently own anything in need of I-4 or I-6 heavy-duty motor mounts in which to test Tim's gift, but I do have this Olds 455 that huffs Nitrous and scorches the torque converter with 700hp and 770lb-ft when the button is pushed. And that's with the smaller 150hp shot of spray. Once installed in the chassis, I'm upping the nitrous jets to deliver over 750hp and 830lb-ft.
I built some engine brackets a few months back that I'll weld a couple tabs to. The wingnut is just for mockup, by the way. I still need to score some 2x3 rectangular tubing with which to build the engine crossmember, but once I do it'll be pretty easy to drill the new crossmember for the Brown Dog Offroad PN CU2883-1 motor mounts and finally get this engine draped in the chassis where it belongs.
