Working at a magazine is an absolutely killer job, but the pay really is peanuts. You can manage if you're careful with your money, but every now and then the unforeseen rears its ugly head. For me, my roof leaks have gotten progressively worse for the past 8 years to where a full replacement was necessary. I had the funds plus a little in reserve for additional carpentry repairs, but it was way worse than I ever imagined and the original estimate is getting dangerously close to doubling. I hate to do it, but I've had to put Murderous Overkill up on the chopping block. Come and get it, no reserve.
