Yesterday Cappa, Verne Simons, and I hit Hell's Revenge for a little fun. We passed a group and their trail leader was driving this TJ with the windshield folded down. I think that's neat.
I'm a big fan of dropping or removing a Jeep's windshild for trail use. I appreciate the fact somebody takes the extra time to get that wind (and sand) in the face feeling from their modern Jeep that was so a part of the first military and civilian Jeeps of the '40s through the early '80s.
As Wrangler models progress and evolve it gets harder and harder to get the windshield to drop, but I'm glad it's still an option. It makes traversing trails with low-hanging obstacles a possibility without damaging your expensive glass and keeps the brand true to its roots. I know some upper management types at Jeep think the windshield should be fixed-mounted in future Wrangler models, but I hope it doesn't happen. In my humble opinion, that would make it just one step closer to being an H2 with a seven-slat grille.
