I'm not what I would consider overly "Green", but I do my part to improve the environment. I at least recycle as much as anyone in my neighborhood. My city supplies trash cans and recycle bins. At the end of the week, come trash day, the recycle bins are typically full and the trash cans have almost nothing in them. I also take my used engine oil in to be recycled. But what about the new oil that you put in your Jeep? Did you know you could buy re-refined oil made from 50% recycled oil? Did you know that chemically it's no different than the new oil that you buy all the time?
Well, you can, and it is! Valvoline stopped by the office today to tell me about it's new "Green" NextGen product line that is made from 50% recycled oil. Now this oil is not just collected, filtered, and slapped back in a bottle. This oil is re-refined. It goes through a whole process that breaks it back down to the basic elements and then it gets the same additive package that any other oil would require. It looks, smells, performs, and tastes just like regular new oil! Actually, scratch that, don't taste it. That's a bad idea. But you catch my drift.
I was a little reluctant to jump on board at first because I figured it was going to cost more than a new bottle of oil. I was surprised to learn it's actually the same price. So now I can change my oil, recycle it, and refill the crankcase with something that is a little more environmentally friendly without any drawbacks. It doesn't get any easier than that to make a difference. I'll never "save the planet" on my own and I don't plan to even try. But I think every little bit of effort helps.
