Before I had kids, this was my tow rig and even served as my daily driver from time to time. It was a '89 F-250 4x4 with an injected 460, C6 transmission 1336 T-case, Sterling rear, and Dana 44 TTB front. I put a Gear Vendor's Overdrive behind the T-case to reduce the buzz from the 4.10 gears and disc brakes on the Sterling and then drove the tires off of it.
After my first kid came along I started looking at crew cab tow vehicles, but I wasn't planning on getting rid of the Ford. I started looking for a Ford Dana 60 front axle to bolt in place of the TTB suspension. The Dana 60 would've plunked right in. A new front driveshaft and some steering linkages would've been all it took.
I was gonna cut the fenders massively to fit some 42s on with the stock springs. Then I'd add some rocker armor and a hoop in the bed to protect my noggin if I ever flipped it. It was gonna be my mud whomper and desert hill climber. But alas, it died on me one day heading up to the office. I called AAA to tow it the remaining 8 miles to Wilshire Blvd building, where it sat 'till I yanked the overdrive and sold it.
