Before & After

Old Jeep Transformations

I once tallied up how many Jeeps I've brought back from a dormant cocoon of neglect, abandonment, and disuse. It's a lot: more than the amount of Jeeps most readers have owned. The Comman D'oh is one of my favorites.

It's the Jeep I love to hate: the C-104 Scout-Ugly Jeepster Commando. I bought it for $350 and promptly sold off the wheels for $100 or $150. I can't remember. I reused all the factory drivetrain components, although I rebuilt the Dana 20 and TH400. I rebuilt the factory brake system, keeping the drums, welded the diff in the rear 3.73:1 Dana 44, and made the fuel system work like new. About the only non-stock components I added was a new heavy-duty factory replacement radiator from BTR Radiators, a B&M TH400 shifter and rebuild kit, and a Summit Racing GM one-wire alternator. The rest was pretty much all Commando-issue parts.

Anyway, here's the before-and-after photos of the buildup.
